INTRODUCTION: "Time and tide waits for nobody" - this is a clich everyone must have heard of. Add to it another concept- resource. The rate at which the human population is using and depleting resources, there soon might come a time when the entire race falls short of resources. The hardest hit is the non-renewable resources, because these resources are the ones upon which humankind has mostly relied on for maximum part of the centuries in the recent past. However, with the advent of research and development on newer sources of energy, better known as renewable sources of energy, there shines a glimmer of hope. These renewable sources of energy not only come as a fresh lease of life, but also an answer to the sustainability of all life forms in the times to come, which currently rely so heavily on these non-renewable resources. The most popular and well known resource amongst all these resources is the solar energy, not only because it is available easily and can be easily extracted, but also because it is one of the most harmless means of energy which is never slated to diminish regardless of how much we use such resources. In recent past, many different methods of extracting solar energy have been developed which are used in widespread applications in all spheres of life as explained below: APPLICATIONS: There are many widespread applications of solar energy. To start with, if properly extracted and harnessed, solar energy can play a great hand in architecture and urban planning. Some of the features of that are well supported by solar energy in this field are orientation relative to the Sun, compact proportion (a low surface area to volume ratio), selective shading (overhangs) and thermal mass. This helps in maintaining proper temperature levels within the households and also creates an automated system of creating electricity from solar-to-electrical energy conversion. Solar cells form yet another example of solar-to-electrical energy conversion at the microscopic level.Conversion of solar energy to light energy also plays an effective role in solar lighting purposes. Also there exist solar hot water systems which use sunlight to heat water (solar energy to heat energy). Add to these solar cookers which use sunlight to cook food automatically. Plus we also have solar vehicles coming up which use solar energy rather than any of the non-renewable fuels hence being a big boost to our save-the environment endeavor. Besides, we also have water treatment (Solar still, solar water disinfection, solar desalination, and Solar Powered Desalination Unit), solar power and solar chemical as other fine methodologies of the contribution of solar energy to our everyday lives. Solar PV systems can revolutionize the world. The government of Australia is providing solar rebates Australia to help attain stability in the ecosystem. These solar rebates Australia would be made available in the form of: Renewable Energy Certificates Solar Credits Feed-in tariffs The more your dependency on solar energy is, the better will be the rebates.
